Business Ideas in Ghana and Kenya: Products to Resell (2026)

If you are searching for business ideas in Ghana, Kenya or Uganda that need little capital, resale is one of the most practical places to start. You buy goods from a wholesaler, manufacturer or importer, and sell them in smaller lots to people who need them near home. You do not need a factory, only a product people buy regularly, a reliable supplier and discipline with money. This guide gives product ideas to resell, explains how to choose among them, outlines the registration steps in each country from official pages and shows how to source wholesale. We do not state capital or profit figures, because they differ by town, product and supplier. Official details are as read in October 2026, and you should confirm them before paying any fee.

How to choose among business ideas: pick a product to resell

Ask five questions before you buy anything:

  1. Do people buy it often? Daily and weekly purchases build cash flow faster than rare ones.
  2. Can you store it safely? Heat, damp, theft and expiry dates matter.
  3. Can you buy it from more than one supplier? One supplier is a risk.
  4. Can you start small? Look for products you can buy in small lots first.
  5. Do you understand the customer? Sell to people you know and can reach.

Then talk to ten potential buyers. Ask what they buy, where, how often and what annoys them. That is your market research, and it costs nothing.

Business ideas in Ghana, Kenya and Uganda: products to resell

These are categories, not promises. Test each locally before you commit stock.

  • Everyday groceries and staples. Rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, tea, packaged snacks and drinks. Fast-moving, but margins can be thin and expiry matters. See our posts on wholesale sugar, rice and cooking oil in Kenya and maize and beans suppliers in Uganda.
  • Household goods. Plastic ware, kitchen items, cleaning supplies, bedding and small appliances. Easy to display and test.
  • Toiletries and personal care. Soap, lotion, toothpaste, sanitary items, hair products. Check labels and regulatory approval where required.
  • Phone accessories. Cases, chargers, cables, earphones, power banks. Quality varies, so test before you resell. See our guide to a phone accessories business.
  • Clothing, shoes and bags. Wide demand and many sources, but sizing, fashion changes and returns need care. See our clothing business guide.
  • School and office supplies. Exercise books, pens, art supplies, printer paper. Sales peak when schools reopen, so plan your buying ahead.
  • Hardware and small tools. Locks, bulbs, paint brushes, basic hand tools and fittings for people doing repairs.
  • Solar lights and small power items. Lamps and chargers can be a good fit where power is unreliable, but check quality and warranty claims carefully.

Registering your resale business in Ghana

The Office of the Registrar of Companies describes registering a business name (a sole proprietorship): check the name, complete and sign Form A, submit it for verification, pay the processing fee, then receive a certificate of registration. As read in October 2026, the page lists GHS 130 as the processing fee and GHS 70 as the annual renewal. For tax, the Ghana Revenue Authority states that the Ghana Card PIN has replaced the TIN for individual taxpayers since 1 April 2021. See the business registration page, and our guide to registering a business in Ghana. If you are a foreign national, read our guide on how to start a wholesale business in Ghana for the trading rules GIPC publishes.

Registering your resale business in Kenya

The Business Registration Service says to log in to its portal on eCitizen, enter three to five preferred names, complete the form, sign and upload the registration form, and approve the payment prompt; the fee stated for a business name is KSh 950. A KRA PIN is registered on the iTax portal, and the invest.go.ke portal says county governments issue single business permits. Read the BRS FAQ and our guide to registering in Kenya, plus our post on starting a wholesale business in Kenya.

Registering your resale business in Uganda

The Uganda Revenue Authority describes three steps to formalise a business: register with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) to obtain a certificate of registration for a business or a certificate of incorporation for a company, register for taxes with URA to get a Tax Identification Number, and obtain a trading licence for your chosen area or premises. URA says individuals need a National ID or two other accepted IDs, and sole proprietors also need a certificate of registration and a statement of particulars. The URSB services page directs users to its online registry and publishes fees separately, so check them there. See the URA business formalisation page and the URSB business registration page.

Where to source products wholesale

  • Local wholesale markets and distributors. You can see and test goods and buy small lots. See our guides to verified wholesale suppliers in Ghana, Kenya and wholesale suppliers in Kampala.
  • Manufacturers. Direct from the producer, usually for larger orders and sometimes better terms.
  • Importers and overseas suppliers. More choice, but you take on shipping, customs and currency risk. Read our guides on importing from China to Ghana, Kenya and Uganda.
  • Online B2B. On Comilmart you can browse bulk listings with minimum order quantities and tiered pricing at /browse, check the supplier directory at /suppliers and send a request at /request-quotation. B2B suppliers arrange and pay for shipping and delivery; we do not handle freight, customs or duties.

Before paying, check the supplier using our checklist, and start with a sample or small order.

Start small, then grow

A sensible first step is one product category and one supplier you have tested, with a second supplier lined up. Keep records of purchases, sales and stock. Price each item from its full cost, as explained in our guide on how to price products for resale. Sell where your customers already are: a stall, a shop, a school, an office, WhatsApp or Instagram. Our post on selling on WhatsApp Business shows how. Reinvest what you earn into the lines that sell fastest, and drop those that do not.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best low-capital business in Ghana? There is no single best business. Choose a product people buy often, that you can store safely and that you can get from a reliable supplier, then test it with a small first order.

What products are easy to resell in Kenya? Everyday groceries, household goods, school supplies, phone accessories and clothing are common categories. Ask local buyers before you buy stock.

Do I need to register a small resale business in Uganda? URA states that anyone engaged in an income-generating activity is required to register for taxes, and describes URSB registration, a TIN and a trading licence as the formalisation steps. Confirm what applies to you with URSB and URA.

How do I find suppliers if I have little money? Start with local wholesalers and small lots, ask for samples and compare at least three quotes.

Can I use Comilmart to find products to resell? You can browse bulk listings and request quotations. We cannot promise prices, stock or sales. Ask about payment methods through live chat or /contact-us.

Next step

Choose one product from the list, speak to ten possible buyers and request three supplier quotes. Browse bulk listings at /browse, post your request, including quantity and delivery country, at /request-quotation and open a free buyer account at /register. The best business ideas in Ghana, Kenya and Uganda are often the simplest: a product people need, bought at a fair cost, sold with honest service.
