Water Pump Prices in Nigeria (2026) and Borehole Cost Drivers
Comilmart Team
October 21, 2026
Water pump prices in Nigeria run from about β¦30,000 for a small submersible pump to several hundred thousand naira for a branded or solar unit, and a whole borehole project can cost into the millions. That spread makes it easy to overpay or to buy a pump that is too weak for your borehole. This guide sets out the dated price ranges we read in October 2026 for submersible and surface pumps, explains how to pick horsepower, and breaks down the main borehole cost drivers so you can budget before you call a driller.
The prices come from publishers and a retailer listing, not from independent surveys. They move with the naira rate and with brand, so confirm with sellers before you pay.
Submersible pump prices in Nigeria
A submersible pump sits under water and pushes it up, which is why it is the usual choice for boreholes. A Nigerian Queries price page dated 19 August 2026 listed these ranges:
| Pump and power | Price listed |
|---|---|
| Granac 0.5hp | β¦30,000 to β¦35,000 |
| Granac 1hp | β¦40,000 to β¦45,000 |
| Interdab 1hp | β¦50,000 to β¦65,000 |
| Interdab 2hp | β¦90,000 to β¦110,000 |
| SAER 1hp | β¦140,000 to β¦150,000 |
| Pedrollo 1.5hp | β¦160,000 to β¦175,000 |
| Pedrollo 2hp | β¦225,000 to β¦240,000 |
| Pedrollo 3hp | β¦240,000 to β¦260,000 |
The same page listed a solar submersible pump at β¦750,000 to β¦800,000 and said that prices vary with brand reputation, power output, coil type, number of wires and durability, and may differ from the market, so confirm with sellers. Notice how much the brand matters: at 1hp the listed range runs from β¦40,000 to β¦150,000. A low price is not automatically a bargain, and a high price is not automatically better, so ask what is in the box, what the warranty covers and who services the pump.
Surface water pump prices in Nigeria
A surface pump stays above water and pulls water up from a tank, well or river, or moves water between tanks. That is a different job from lifting water out of a deep borehole. As one example of a petrol-powered surface pump, Zit, an online store, listed a Sumec Firman 2-inch water pump (WP20X) at β¦180,000 when we read the page in October 2026, reduced from β¦189,000. The listing gave a 4.0HP petrol engine, 50mm (2-inch) ports, a total head of 26 metres, a maximum suction head of 8 metres and a maximum capacity of 600 litres per minute.
That 8-metre suction figure is a useful reminder: a surface pump cannot pull water from deeper than its suction limit, so check the spec sheet against your water source. We did not find enough dated, sourced prices for other surface pump types to list them. Ask two or three sellers for written prices that state head, flow rate and power source.
How to choose pump horsepower
The Nigerian Queries page gives straightforward advice: choose horsepower based on the number of outlets, the distance to them and the pressure each needs. A pump that is too small will underperform or need frequent repairs. It says 0.5hp should be enough for most residential settings, but a deep borehole or many outlets may need more power. Before you buy, write down:
- The depth of the borehole and the depth to the water level.
- The height of your overhead tank and the distance from the borehole to it.
- The number of taps and outlets you will run.
- Your power source: grid, generator, inverter or solar.
Give those four answers to the seller and ask them to recommend a pump in writing. Our guide to products for African markets: heat, dust, voltage and power explains why power supply matters for any motor-driven product.
Borehole cost in Nigeria: what drives the price
If you do not yet have a borehole, the pump is only part of the budget. An Ownkey guide published 3 July 2026 gave these ranges: drilling at β¦600,000 to β¦1,600,000, pump and installation at β¦300,000 to β¦900,000, and a total from survey to working pump of β¦900,000 to β¦2,500,000. It listed these cost drivers:
- Depth. Reaching a reliable yield may need deeper drilling, which raises cost.
- Geology. Harder rock, such as basement complex, costs more to drill than sedimentary ground.
- Yield test results. A higher-yield borehole generally needs a more capable pump.
- Exchange rate. Imported parts such as casing pipe and the pump are sensitive to naira swings, so the guide suggests pricing them close to drilling day.
The guide did not state tank or water treatment costs, so ask your contractor to price those separately. Always get the scope in writing: survey, drilling depth, casing, pump, cabling, tank stand and completion report.
Borehole permits and rules
Rules vary by state, so check locally before drilling. For example, the Voice of Nigeria reported that the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) reaffirmed that drillers need a licence from the commission, that a commercial borehole needs a permit, and that a completion report is required after drilling. The article did not carry a date, and rules can change, so confirm with the commission or your state water authority. This is not legal advice.
Where to compare water pumps and equipment
For a single pump for your home, browse available listings at /marketplace/shop. For farms, estates, schools or resale, check bulk listings at /browse and post your requirements at /request-quotation, stating flow rate, head, power source and quantity. Suppliers selling pumps into Africa can read our guide to exporting pumps and irrigation equipment. For after-sale issues see how warranty claims work, and see the price guide for other categories. Comilmart buyer protection holds payment until delivery is confirmed, with a 7-day window. Suppliers arrange and pay for shipping on B2B orders; we do not handle freight, customs or delivery.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a submersible pump in Nigeria? The page we read listed 0.5hp to 1hp pumps from β¦30,000 up to β¦150,000, and 1.5hp to 3hp pumps from β¦160,000 to β¦260,000, depending on brand.
What size pump do I need for a borehole? It depends on borehole depth, tank height, the number of outlets and pressure. Give those details to the seller and ask for a written recommendation.
How much does it cost to drill a borehole in Nigeria? Ownkey put drilling at β¦600,000 to β¦1,600,000 and the whole job at β¦900,000 to β¦2,500,000 in July 2026. Depth and geology change the cost.
Is a solar water pump worth it? The solar submersible pump we saw was listed at β¦750,000 to β¦800,000. Whether it pays for itself depends on how much you spend on fuel or power now, so ask for a full quote.
Can I buy pumps wholesale on Comilmart? You can send a request for quotation and approved suppliers can respond. We cannot promise prices or availability.
Next step
Write down your borehole depth, tank height, outlets and power source, then ask three sellers for written pump quotes that include warranty and installation. To source pumps in quantity, post a request for quotation. Water pump prices in Nigeria depend on brand and horsepower, so compare like with like and note the date on each quote.
