Tyre Prices in Nigeria (2026): Brands, Sizes and New vs Used

C

October 21, 2026

Tyre prices in Nigeria vary so widely between published lists that you can easily end up comparing different things. A small-car tyre in one list costs ₦15,000 to ₦20,000, while another page puts tyres from well-known brands at ₦80,000 and above. The difference could come from size, brand, date, whether the price is per tyre or per set, and whether the tyre is new or used. This guide shows what two published lists say, how to read the size on a tyre, why the date code matters, and why Nigeria's standards regulator has warned against used tyres.

We are not ranking brands, and no single price below should be treated as a quote. Prices change with the naira rate and with import costs, so ask your dealer for a written price for your exact size.

Car tyre prices in Nigeria by brand and size

The most detailed list we could read was a Nigerian Queries tyre price page dated 30 August 2026. It did not say when the prices were collected, and some entries had typing errors, so we use only the clear ones. Selected examples:

Brand and sizePrice listed
Maxxis 185/65R14₦15,000 to ₦20,000
Maxxis 205/60R16₦20,000 to ₦30,000
Maxxis 215/70R16₦35,000 to ₦40,000
Maxxis 225/70R16₦40,000 to ₦50,000
Goodyear 185/65 R15₦32,000 to ₦45,000
Bridgestone 205/70 R15₦50,000 to ₦55,000
Achilles 225/65 R15₦18,000 to ₦22,000
Continental Premium Contact 2, 185/55 R16₦40,000 to ₦60,000

The same page listed many Dunlop sizes at ₦100,000 and above, so brand and size together make a big difference to the price.

Why published tyre prices disagree

Now compare a second page. A Kashgain article titled "Top 7 tyre brands in Nigeria and prices for 2025", which carries no publication date beyond the year in its title, listed Dunlop at about ₦80,000 for smaller car tyres, Bridgestone passenger tyres at ₦80,000 to ₦150,000, Michelin sedan and compact tyres at ₦150,000 to ₦250,000 and Maxxis at ₦150,000 to ₦200,000. That is several times higher than the Maxxis range in the first list, and the article does not name sizes for most of its figures or say whether a price is per tyre or per set.

We cannot tell you which page is closer to the market, and we do not want to guess. What this shows is how to protect yourself:

  • Always give the dealer the full size (for example 205/60R16), the brand and the quantity.
  • Ask whether the quoted price is per tyre, and whether fitting, balancing and valves are included.
  • Ask for the manufacturing date of the exact tyres you will receive.
  • Collect at least three written quotes on the same day.

How to read a tyre size

The size is moulded into the sidewall. A guide from Autopartspro, a UK website, explains the example 205/55R16 91V this way:

  • 205 is the tyre width in millimetres.
  • 55 is the aspect ratio: the sidewall height as a percentage of the width.
  • R means radial construction.
  • 16 is the rim diameter in inches, which must match your wheel.
  • 91 is the load index (the guide says 91 corresponds to 615kg per tyre) and V is the speed rating.

Check your car's handbook or the door-jamb placard for the right size, and never fit a tyre with a load index below the specified one, as the guide advises. Because tyre price depends heavily on size, being accurate here saves money.

The tyre date code: check the age before you pay

The same guide explains that a tyre's DOT code ends with four digits giving the manufacturing date: the first two are the week and the last two the year, so "2023" means the 20th week of 2023. It adds that most manufacturers recommend replacing tyres older than six years, even with good tread left. A "new" tyre that has sat unsold in a warehouse for years may be cheaper for a reason. Ask the dealer to show you the code before you pay, and write the number on your receipt.

New vs used tyres in Nigeria

Used tyres are widely sold in Nigeria, but the regulator's position is clear. In January 2021 Vanguard reported that the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) seized two container loads of imported used tyres at a spare parts market in Port Harcourt. The Director-General was quoted as saying that used tyres are contraband and that Nigerians should avoid them because no standards exist to judge their quality. We are describing what was reported at that time, not giving legal advice, and rules can change, so ask SON or a lawyer if you are importing tyres.

From a buyer's point of view the practical points are:

  1. Tyres are a safety item. A cheap tyre that fails costs more than a good one.
  2. If you consider a used tyre, inspect the sidewalls for cracks and bulges, check the tread and the date code, and ask for the origin.
  3. Keep the receipt and the invoice in case you need to make a complaint.

How to compare tyre dealers and buy in bulk

If you run a taxi fleet, a transport company or a small garage, buying several tyres together can matter. Compare dealers on size, brand, manufacturing date, price per tyre, fitting charges and returns. Our guide to exporting auto parts to Africa explains what suppliers should provide, and the supplier verification checklist shows how to check a seller before you send a deposit. For imports, the landed cost guide shows what to add to the factory price.

Browse bulk listings at /browse, post your sizes and quantities at /request-quotation, and see more categories in the price guide. Suppliers arrange and pay for shipping and delivery on B2B orders; Comilmart does not handle freight, customs or delivery. Buyer protection holds payment until delivery is confirmed, with a 7-day window.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a car tyre in Nigeria? It depends on size and brand. One list we read showed Maxxis 185/65R14 at ₦15,000 to ₦20,000, while another page put some brands far higher. Ask for a written quote for your size.

Which tyre brand is best in Nigeria? We do not rank brands. Choose the size and load index your car needs, check the date code and compare warranty and fitting terms.

How do I know a tyre is new? Check the DOT date code on the sidewall: the last four digits are the week and year of manufacture.

Are used tyres allowed in Nigeria? SON's Director-General was reported in 2021 as calling used tyres contraband. Confirm current rules with SON before importing or selling them.

Can I request tyres in bulk on Comilmart? You can send a request for quotation with size, brand and quantity, and approved suppliers can respond. We cannot promise prices or availability.

Next step

Write down your exact tyre size and load index, then ask three dealers for written prices, manufacturing dates and fitting charges. To source tyres in quantity, post a request for quotation. Tyre prices in Nigeria differ so much between sources that your best protection is a dated, written quote for the exact tyre you will receive.
