Laptop Prices in Kenya 2026: HP, Dell, Lenovo, MacBook (New vs Refurbished)
Comilmart Team
October 8, 2026
The laptop price in Kenya depends mostly on one decision: do you buy new, or refurbished? A business-grade refurbished laptop with 8GB of RAM and an SSD can cost less than half of a comparable new machine, while a new MacBook can cost several times more. This guide uses dealer pages and classifieds checked in 2026 to show real price bands for HP, Dell, Lenovo and Apple, what specs to ask for as a student, office worker or gamer, and how to test a used machine before you pay.
Laptop prices in Kenya: new versus refurbished
A student-focused guide on Mctaba, updated 26 August 2026, puts refurbished business laptops such as ThinkPads and EliteBooks with 8GB of RAM and an SSD at about KSh 18,000 to KSh 35,000, depending on model and dealer. It puts new laptops with similar specs from about KSh 40,000 upward. That gap is the main reason refurbished stock dominates budget buying in Nairobi.
The same site's Nairobi second-hand guide gives model-level ranges: Lenovo ThinkPad T450, T460 and T470 at KSh 18,000 to KSh 30,000, HP EliteBook 840 G3, G4 and G5 at KSh 18,000 to KSh 32,000, and Dell Latitude 5480 and 5490 at KSh 18,000 to KSh 28,000. Those are guide ranges, not fixed prices, and they assume negotiation.
Refurbished laptop prices in Kenya by brand
A Mombasa dealer, Mars Computers, listed these refurbished laptops in a July 2026 post. Each is a specific machine, so you can compare it against what other shops offer.
- Dell Latitude 5400: 8th gen Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, touchscreen, Windows 11 Pro, KSh 29,999.
- HP ProBook 645 G4: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, KSh 29,999.
- HP EliteBook 840 G5: 8th gen Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14-inch Full HD, aluminium body, KSh 29,000.
- HP ProBook 650 G4: 8th gen Core i3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, KSh 22,999.
- Dell Latitude 7290: 8th gen Core i3, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 12.5-inch screen, KSh 16,500.
Where to buy second-hand and ex-UK laptops in Kenya
The Mctaba guide lists three main routes in Nairobi. The first is Luthuli Avenue in the CBD, where dozens of shops sell refurbished laptops. It says basic models start around KSh 15,000 and better-specced machines reach about KSh 40,000, with prices open to negotiation. Its advice is to choose a shop with a fixed location rather than a street vendor, ask about the return policy (it says 7 to 30 days at reputable shops), and compare at least three shops. The second route is individual sellers on Facebook Marketplace and OLX, where there is no shop to go back to, so meet in a public place, test thoroughly and pay by M-Pesa for a record. The third is Jiji Kenya, where some sellers are verified and some offer delivery and returns.
We could not confirm from any source how much of Kenya's refurbished stock comes from the UK, so we will not put a number on it. If a seller says a laptop is ex-UK, ask what that means: who graded it, what was replaced, and what warranty comes with it.
New HP, Dell and Lenovo laptop prices in Kenya
New business and home laptops sit above the refurbished bands. Public price data for new models is patchy, so we will not quote a single price for each series. Mctaba's guide says new laptops with 8GB RAM and an SSD start from about KSh 40,000. Dealers such as Saruk Digital Solutions in Nairobi list new Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 models with Core i5 processors, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSDs and one year dealership warranties, but at the time we checked, their pages showed no price (one said prices exclude VAT and told buyers to phone for the current figure). That is common: call or message for a quote and ask whether VAT is included.
One tip from the same guide: avoid very cheap new laptops from unknown brands, which often come with 4GB of RAM and slow hard drives.
MacBook price in Kenya
MacBooks are the most expensive category by a wide margin. Kenyan dealer pages we checked (undated, so treat them as indicative) showed a MacBook Air M1 with 8GB and 256GB at KSh 128,000 to KSh 130,000, a MacBook Air M2 with 8GB and 256GB at KSh 174,000, and a MacBook Air M2 13-inch with 512GB starting at KSh 189,999 to KSh 210,000 depending on the dealer. One of these dealers does not state whether stock is new or used, so ask. MacBooks hold resale value better than most Windows laptops, but check the iCloud lock and battery health before buying second-hand.
What specs to buy: student, office or gaming
- Student: Mctaba recommends 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 and a 256GB SSD in a business-grade brand such as ThinkPad, EliteBook or Latitude. Battery life and weight matter if you carry it daily.
- Office and business: 16GB of RAM suits most professionals, according to a Mars Computers buying guide published in August 2026, and an SSD is worth more than a faster processor. Business lines such as EliteBook, ProBook and Latitude add sturdier builds.
- Gaming and creative work: The same guide says you need a dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon), 16GB or more of RAM and 1TB or more of storage. We did not find reliable current Kenyan prices for gaming laptops, so check live listings instead of trusting round numbers.
How to test a used laptop before you pay
Follow the checks from the Mctaba guides: test the screen, keyboard, trackpad, battery, ports, Wi-Fi, speakers and hinges. Plug in a flash drive to test each USB port. Open This PC properties to confirm the RAM, processor and storage match the advert. Walk away from swollen batteries, flickering screens, refusal to let you test, or an all sales final policy. Expect a one to three month warranty from a refurbisher, and treat a refusal to give any warranty as a red flag. Upgrades are cheap: the guide quotes RAM at KSh 1,500 to KSh 3,000, an SSD at KSh 2,000 to KSh 4,000 and a replacement battery at KSh 2,500 to KSh 6,000.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest laptop in Kenya? Refurbished machines start around KSh 15,000 to KSh 16,500 in the sources we checked, such as the Dell Latitude 7290 with 128GB storage. New laptops generally start higher.
Is a refurbished laptop worth it in Kenya? For students and office work, a three-year-old business laptop with 8GB of RAM and an SSD is often better value than a cheap new one, provided you test it and get a written warranty.
Which is better, HP, Dell or Lenovo? All three have good business lines. Choose by condition, specs and warranty rather than brand alone.
Do laptop prices in Kenya change often? Yes. They move with the exchange rate, stock and promotions, so use the figures as a guide and check live listings.
