Generator and Solar System Prices in Ghana 2026
Comilmart Team
October 8, 2026
Whether you are shopping because of power cuts or simply want a reliable backup, the generator price in Ghana depends far more on engine type, rated output and brand than on the kVA number alone. In early October 2026, new petrol generators on Jiji Ghana were listed from about GH₵2,800 for a 1.2kVA unit to GH₵9,000 for a 10kVA set, new diesel sets from about GH₵16,500 to GH₵40,000, and solar equipment from a few hundred cedis for a small panel to tens of thousands for a full battery system. This guide lays out those ranges, then helps you decide between a generator, solar or both.
Generator price in Ghana: what the October 2026 listings show
All figures here are asking prices from Jiji Ghana listing pages viewed in early October 2026, in Ghana cedis. They are not quotes. Prices move with the cedi exchange rate, fuel costs and stock, and many ads do not say what is included (installation, transfer switch, delivery). Use them as a range to test a quote against, then check live offers before you pay.
Petrol generator prices in Ghana by size
Petrol sets are the entry point and are what most households and small shops buy.
- Small portable units (about 1.2kVA to 3.2kVA): a 1.2kVA gasoline generator was listed at GH₵2,780 to GH₵3,350, a 2kVA key-start unit at GH₵3,400, a 2,000W silent inverter generator at GH₵5,199 and a 3.2kVA inverter model at GH₵8,500. A "Navigator" 3.2kW unit was GH₵5,880. Inverter-type sets cost more, but they are quieter and suit sensitive electronics.
- Mid-size (5kVA to 7.5kVA): sets advertised as Honda 5kVA were listed at GH₵3,500, 7kVA to 7.5kVA at GH₵4,000 to GH₵4,500, and 7.2kVA units at GH₵4,500 to GH₵5,000. A Topex 9500 (7kVA) was GH₵10,200.
- Larger petrol sets (about 10kVA): most 10kVA sets advertised as Honda were GH₵8,500 to GH₵9,000, though one listing asked GH₵15,500. A gap that large is a signal to ask what is different.
How to read kVA and watts in generator adverts
Many adverts mix kVA, kW and watts in the same title, for example "7.2kva" next to "8.2kw", or "10kva" next to "13000w". Those numbers are not interchangeable, and several look like peak or maximum figures rather than what the set can deliver continuously. Ask the seller for the continuous (rated) output, the engine size and the make of the alternator, and ask to see the set running with a load before you pay. Brand claims in ads, such as "original" or "Japan made", are the seller's own words and should be checked.
Diesel generator prices in Ghana
Diesel costs more up front but is built for longer running. Listings for new diesel sets included a Firman 5.5kVA at GH₵21,000 to GH₵22,000, a Firman SDG7000SE at GH₵21,000, a Kama silent 7kVA at GH₵25,000, a Firman 10kVA at GH₵26,000, and Firman 12kVA single-phase sets at GH₵37,000 to GH₵40,000. Diesel sets advertised under the Honda name were GH₵16,500 to GH₵19,000 for 10kVA, and a 15kVA standby set was GH₵35,000. A generic "diesel gen set" was GH₵30,000.
If your power need is a few hours a day, petrol is usually cheaper to buy. If a shop, clinic or small factory runs for long hours, the higher purchase price of a diesel set may be worth it. Either way, budget for servicing and fuel, not just the purchase price.
Solar panel prices in Ghana
Panel prices are listed per panel, and the big modules now dominate. In the same period, 580W to 630W panels (including Jinko 625W and Longi 605W/620W) were listed at about GH₵1,400 to GH₵1,600 each, a 725W bifacial panel at GH₵2,500, a 285W panel at GH₵790 and a 210W panel at GH₵499. Small foldable or portable panels cost much more per watt, for instance a 100W foldable panel at GH₵1,700 and a 200W foldable panel at GH₵3,800.
Solar inverter and battery prices in Ghana
The inverter and battery usually cost more than the panels. Hybrid solar inverters in the listings ran from GH₵2,500 for a 12V 1,000W unit and GH₵3,300 for a 1.8kW unit, through GH₵3,350 for a 3kW 24V model, GH₵5,300 for a 4kW unit and GH₵6,800 for a 5kW 48V Felicity hybrid, to GH₵9,999 for an 8,000W unit and GH₵12,900 to GH₵15,800 for 11kVA to 12kVA models. A used Growatt 11kW inverter was GH₵10,000.
Batteries show the biggest spread. A 12V 200Ah gel battery was listed at GH₵3,600 and a 12V 200Ah LiFePO4 at GH₵5,299. Lithium batteries for home systems were listed at about GH₵11,999 for a 5.12kWh unit, GH₵17,999 to GH₵18,000 for 10.24kWh, GH₵23,000 to GH₵25,000 for 15kWh and GH₵25,999 to GH₵27,000 for 16kWh. One 44kWh home backup battery-and-inverter system was GH₵75,000.
Complete solar system prices in Ghana
Packaged systems are harder to compare because the ads do not always list what is included. An all-in-one 6kVA solar system was listed at GH₵22,000, a Felicity all-in-one at GH₵25,000, a "6kVA solar power system" at GH₵69,500, a used complete 10kW system at GH₵75,000 and a 33kW commercial set-up with labour at GH₵350,000. Always ask for a written list of the panels (number and wattage), inverter, battery capacity in kWh, cables, mounting and installation before you compare two quotes.
Power reliability: generator, solar or both?
Ghanaians know "dumsor" well. 3News published a load-shedding timetable tool for 25 April to 1 May 2026, citing ECG and GRIDCo, which described rotating outages across ECG areas. That was a single week, so check the Electricity Company of Ghana's current notices for your area rather than assuming the same pattern now.
The practical choice comes down to how long and how often you lose power. A petrol set is the cheapest way to cover short outages. Solar with a battery is quiet and has no fuel bill, but the battery is what you pay for, so size it to the appliances that must keep running. Many households combine them: solar and battery for daily use, a generator for long outages or heavy loads like an air conditioner. Whatever you choose, never run a generator indoors or in a closed compound passage; exhaust fumes are dangerous.
Frequently asked questions
What is the price of a 5kVA generator in Ghana? In early October 2026 listings, petrol sets advertised as 5kVA were GH₵3,500, while a diesel Firman 5.5kVA was GH₵21,000 to GH₵22,000. Fuel type is the main reason for the difference.
Is solar cheaper than a generator in Ghana? Solar usually costs more to buy but has little running cost, while a generator is cheaper up front and costs more in fuel and servicing. The better value depends on how many hours you run it and which appliances you need to power.
What size inverter do I need for a house? Add up the watts of everything you want to run at once, then add a safety margin. Listings ranged from 1.8kW units up to 12kVA models, so ask a seller to size it for your actual appliances.
Are these prices final? No. They move with the exchange rate, fuel prices and stock, and are asking prices from early October 2026.
