Phone Prices in Uganda 2026: What to Expect and How to Avoid Fake Phones

October 8, 2026
If you are comparing phone prices in Uganda, the most useful thing to know is which brands Ugandans actually carry and how to judge a price quickly, because handset prices change faster than any printed list. In September 2026, StatCounter ranked Samsung first among mobile vendors in Uganda, followed by Tecno, Infinix, Apple, itel and Xiaomi. This guide shows what that means for your budget, gives the verified Tecno launch prices we could confirm in Ugandan shillings (UGX), and explains how to check new, used and refurbished phones so you do not overpay or buy a fake.
Phone prices in Uganda: what we could verify
Handset prices move with the exchange rate, stock and promotions, so a printed list goes stale quickly. We were able to confirm one current-generation range with published UGX figures: the Tecno Spark 40 series. When it launched in Uganda in July 2025, the Spark 40 (128GB) was listed at UGX 479,000, the Spark 40 Pro at UGX 679,000 and the Spark 40 Pro+ at UGX 769,000. That means the Pro cost UGX 200,000 more than the base model and the Pro+ a further UGX 90,000 on top of that.
Those are 2025 launch prices, not today's shop prices. We did not find reliable, dated 2026 price lists for the other brands, and older price lists we found were from 2017 to 2019, so we have left them out rather than quote numbers that no longer apply. Use this article for the method and the brand picture, then check live Comilmart listings and ask sellers for a current written quote.
Which phone brands do Ugandans buy?
StatCounter measures share by web page views, not by units sold, so it shows which phones people use online rather than exact sales. For September 2026 it reported the following share of mobile vendor traffic in Uganda:
- Samsung: 36.03%
- Tecno: 21.26%
- Infinix: 9.82%
- Apple: 6.86%
- itel: 4.42%
- Xiaomi: 4%
In plain terms, Samsung, Tecno and Infinix are the names you will meet most often, and Apple is the premium choice for a smaller group of buyers.
Tecno phone prices in Uganda
Tecno is a popular budget-to-midrange brand in Uganda, and it has a physical presence in Kampala: the Spark 40 series was showcased at Tecno Mobile Uganda's flagship store at Arena Mall, Nsambya. The Spark 40 launch prices above give a useful ladder. The 128GB base phone is the entry point, the Pro adds a step in specification for UGX 200,000 more, and the Pro+ is the top of that family. When you compare Tecno models, check RAM and storage in the box specification, since two phones with the same name can come in different configurations at different prices.
Infinix, itel and Samsung phone prices in Uganda
Infinix is the nearest rival to Tecno, with similar price positioning, so it is worth comparing a Tecno and an Infinix at the same storage and RAM before deciding. Itel is generally positioned at the entry level of the market. Samsung covers the widest range, from budget Galaxy A-series phones to flagship S-series models, which helps explain why it leads the vendor ranking. We do not give UGX figures for these brands because we could not verify current 2026 Ugandan prices for them. The practical approach is to pick two or three models, ask three sellers for their price including warranty, and compare.
iPhone prices in Uganda: new, used and refurbished
iPhones are a premium purchase, and the price gap between a new unit and a used one is the main saving available. Condition varies widely between used and refurbished units. Check battery health in Settings, confirm the phone is not locked to another network, ensure iCloud is signed out, and compare the storage and model name on the box, the phone and the receipt. Because we could not verify current UGX iPhone prices, do not rely on any figure that a seller will not put in writing.
New, used and refurbished phones: what to check
- New: sealed box, matching serial and IMEI numbers on the box and the phone, a receipt and a clearly stated warranty.
- Refurbished: ask who refurbished it, what was replaced (battery, screen) and what warranty or return window applies.
- Used: test the screen, camera, speakers, charging port, fingerprint or face unlock, and battery life, and meet in a safe public place.
Warranty terms differ between brands, sellers and new versus used phones, so ask for them in writing instead of assuming. For the cheapest safe purchase, a recent mid-range used phone from a seller who allows testing is often better value than a brand-new phone from a brand you do not know.
How to avoid fake or stolen phones
Dial *#06# on the handset to display its IMEI number and confirm it matches the number printed on the box and on the phone's settings screen. Be wary of prices far below the market, sellers who refuse to let you test the phone, mismatched numbers, and anyone who asks for a deposit before showing you the handset. Pay only when you can inspect the phone, or use a platform that holds your payment until delivery is confirmed. Our guide to shopping online safely covers general checks, though it was written for other markets, so apply the same habits in Uganda.
Comparing with other East and West African markets
Phone prices differ by country because of exchange rates, taxes and supply, so figures from another market do not carry over. If you are curious how the market looks elsewhere, see our price guides for Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria, but do not assume those prices apply to Uganda.
