Sourcing & Trade Guide
Korean Cosmetics Manufacturers: Wholesale to Overseas Buyers

November 2, 2026
A good skincare brand in Seoul can win a domestic following through pharmacies, beauty chains and social media. A good contract manufacturer in Gyeonggi or Chungcheong can fill production slots for dozens of clients. Yet both often hit the same ceiling: the domestic market is crowded, and the buyers who could take pallets rather than parcels are somewhere else.
Those buyers exist, and some search for Korean cosmetics manufacturers by name. Beauty wholesalers in Lagos, Accra and Nairobi, pharmacy distributors in Riyadh and Dubai, and salon suppliers in Doha all look for skincare ranges that feel modern and well made. What they lack is a trustworthy way to find suppliers who are ready to talk about MOQ, samples and labelling in plain terms.
This guide is for brand owners, OEM/ODM factories and export managers in Korea. It covers what overseas wholesalers ask for, how to set up a cosmetics listing, which label and certificate questions come up, and how to handle samples and private-label requests without losing money.
What wholesale buyers want from Korean skincare
Buyers rarely ask for "K-beauty" in general. They ask for specific product types, and the details decide whether they enquire.
- Sheet masks and mask packs, often bought by the carton or by the thousand
- Cleansers, toners, essences, serums and creams in several sizes
- Sunscreens and sun sticks, which sell well in sunny climates
- Cushion compacts and base makeup, where shade range matters
- Hair and scalp care, including shampoos and treatments
- Body care and hand creams for mass retail
Importers also think about climate and skin. Heat and humidity affect texture, stability and packaging. Shade ranges for base makeup should suit a wide range of skin tones. If your range includes lightweight textures, fragrance-free options or products suited to sensitive skin, say so in the listing, in words a retailer can repeat to a customer.
Another useful habit is to explain the hero ingredient and the claim it supports, without overstating it. Buyers are cautious about exaggerated claims, and some markets restrict what a cosmetic may say it does.
OEM, ODM and your own brand: say which you are
Korea has a large contract-manufacturing sector. Some factories sell finished products under their own name. Others make formulations and fill lines for other brands. Foreign buyers need to know which you offer, because the questions are different.
| Model | What it means | What the buyer asks |
|---|---|---|
| Own brand | You sell finished, branded products | Range, MOQ per item, price tiers |
| OEM | You manufacture to the buyer's formula and spec | Formula ownership, MOQ, lead time |
| ODM | You offer ready formulas the buyer rebrands | Formula options, packaging choices, MOQ |
| Private label | Your product with the buyer's name and design | Artwork, minimum run, labelling help |
If you handle private-label requests, state the minimum run, the lead time from artwork approval, and who pays for moulds, printing plates or special components. This saves many rounds of messages.
Setting up a cosmetics listing that buyers can trust
A wholesaler comparing five Korean suppliers will favour the one whose listing answers questions before they are asked. Comilmart listings support MOQ, tiered pricing, lead times, samples, specifications, certifications and product videos, which suits cosmetics well.
For each product, consider including:
- Product name, size or volume, and pack contents
- Full ingredient list in the standard international format
- MOQ and price tiers by carton or pallet
- Shelf life, batch coding and recommended storage
- Carton size, units per carton and weight
- Lead time for stock and for custom runs
- Photos of the product, the box and the label, plus a short video
Photograph the real packaging, including the back label. Importers want to see what customers will read. If you hold quality or safety documents for your plant or products, upload them as certifications.
Labels, claims and certificates to confirm
Cosmetics are regulated in nearly every country, and rules differ. In Korea, cosmetics fall under the oversight of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Importing countries have their own authorities, registration systems and label requirements, and some require product notification or registration before sale.
Points that commonly come up in buyer conversations:
- Language on the label. English is common; some markets want Arabic or French as well.
- Ingredient list and manufacturer details. Most markets expect these.
- Batch number and manufacturing or expiry information. Importers use these for stock control.
- Halal expectations. Gulf and some African buyers may ask about alcohol content or animal-derived ingredients. Only claim what you can document.
- Safety and quality documents. Certificates of analysis, safety assessments or quality-system certificates may be requested.
- Claims. Terms such as "whitening" or "anti-wrinkle" are treated differently from country to country.
Do not guess. Confirm label, registration and certification requirements with your customs broker, regulatory consultant or the relevant authority in the destination country before you ship. This guide is general information, not legal advice.
Samples, testers and first orders
Beauty buyers want to feel the texture, smell the product and check the packaging before they commit. A clear sample policy helps.
- State what is available: single units, a sample kit or testers.
- Say who pays for samples and courier, and whether sample cost is credited against a first order.
- Note how long samples take to prepare.
- Offer a modest trial order if your standard MOQ is high.
Cosmetics are also sensitive to heat. Tell your forwarder about temperature limits, and avoid leaving pallets in the sun at ports. Pack sheet masks and tubes in sturdy cartons, and seal liquids carefully so that caps do not loosen in transit.
Pricing should show the currency and the Incoterm. FOB Incheon or FOB Busan is a common way for a Korean exporter to start, with the buyer arranging freight, while others quote CIF to a named port. Buyers can use the landed-cost calculator and shipping rate tools on Comilmart to estimate delivery costs, and ComilExpress is available as Comilmart's own logistics service. Treat these as planning tools, and never promise a delivery date you cannot control.
How buyers find Korean cosmetics manufacturers on Comilmart
Applying is free through the manufacturer application page. Comilmart reviews your company details, registration number, tax or VAT number, business licence, certificates, logo and sample product photos. Approved companies receive a Verified badge, which tells buyers a review has taken place.
Once listed, you can be found by buyers browsing categories, and you can respond to buyers who post sourcing requests at RFQ sourcing. A buyer might request a private-label sunscreen or a bulk order of sheet masks, and you reply with a quotation. Chat, offers and counter-offers keep the negotiation in one place, and Trade Assurance offers general buyer protection; read how it works before relying on it.
Comilmart is run by Macver Technology with a team based in Qatar and a focus on Africa and the Middle East and Gulf. It can help you reach importers, but it does not guarantee orders.
Frequently asked questions
Can a small Korean brand sell wholesale abroad? Yes, if you can state an MOQ, a price list and a lead time. Smaller brands often begin with a handful of best-selling products and one or two destination markets.
Do I need to list every product I make? No. Start with the lines you can supply consistently and add more once the first enquiries arrive.
Should I list my ingredients publicly? Listing the standard ingredient list is normal and helps buyers check suitability. Keep proprietary formula details for OEM discussions.
What about counterfeit worries? Show your company details, your own brand marks and clear photos. A Verified badge helps buyers see that a review has been completed.
