Sourcing & Trade Guide
Best Online Grocery Stores in Ghana (2026)
Comilmart Team
October 23, 2026
The best online grocery stores in Ghana right now are a mix of supermarket chains with their own apps, delivery platforms that carry supermarket shelves, and a few independent online supermarkets. There is no single winner for every shopper, because what works in East Legon may not work in Kumasi. This guide covers the options we could confirm in October 2026, what each one is known for, and how to pick one without wasting money.
A quick note on how we wrote this. We checked each name below against news reports, company pages or app-store descriptions. We did not place test orders, so we do not rate delivery speed, fees or prices. Those change often and differ by area, so check them in each app before you pay. Comilmart is run by the same team that publishes this guide, so we have listed ourselves at the end and kept the other options fair.
Supermarket chains that sell online
If you already trust a supermarket brand, its own online channel is the simplest way to buy groceries online Ghana wide, or at least in your city.
- MaxMart. The Accra-based chain has an online shopping app on Google Play. A 2026 profile in Accra Street Journal says customers can have orders delivered or collect them at the Liberation Road store, and that the chain has stores in Accra and Tema. The same profile notes the app has had mixed user feedback, so read the latest reviews before relying on it.
- Melcom. Melcom launched its online shop, melcomonline.com, in 2017, with delivery to a chosen address or pickup at a Melcom shop. A Ghanaian shopping-site roundup lists food and kitchen essentials among the categories. Melcom is better known for household goods and electronics, so check that the grocery items you want are listed and in stock.
Shoprite used to be the obvious name here. Shoprite Holdings has said it is selling its seven Ghana stores and warehouse, and reports in 2025 said a buyer had not yet been named. Because ownership is changing, we have not listed it as an online option. If you shop there in person, ask the store what its current arrangements are.
Delivery apps for grocery delivery in Accra and beyond
These platforms do not own the shelves. They bring items from partner shops to your door, which is useful when you want one app for many stores.
- Bolt Food. In September 2025 Bolt Food Ghana announced partnerships with six retail and grocery chains: Melcom, Maxmart, Fairway, Palace, Sneda and Kwikmart, plus pharmacies and other retailers. That makes it one of the widest options for grocery delivery Accra residents can try. Which shops appear depends on your address.
- Hubtel. The Hubtel app describes itself as a place to order meals and essentials from local restaurants and shops, and also lists bill payments and mobile money transfers. Its App Store page names Melcom among its shopping partners. It is handy if you already use Hubtel for payments.
Two names you may remember have changed. Glovo stopped operating in Ghana on 10 May 2024, citing profitability. Jumia ended its food delivery service in several African markets in late 2023, though Jumia itself remains active in Ghana (see below).
Online supermarkets and marketplaces
- Ghana Flag Supermarket. This is an online supermarket Ghana shoppers can find at ghanaflagsupermarket.com. It describes itself as an online grocery store with two physical branches around Oyarifa, and its pages list food, beverages, baby meals and household items alongside electronics and home goods. The site says it offers delivery in Accra and nationwide shipping, but it does not publish fees or timings on the page we read, so ask before ordering.
- Jumia Ghana. Jumia is a general online marketplace and named Ghana as one of its key markets when it narrowed its footprint in 2024. A Ghanaian shopping-site roundup lists food among its categories. Marketplace listings come from many sellers, so check each seller and the delivery details on the product page.
How to choose among the best online grocery stores in Ghana
Use these questions to narrow the list.
- Does it cover your area? Enter your address before you fill a basket. Coverage inside Accra can differ from Kumasi, Takoradi or Tamale.
- Which items do you actually buy? Staples such as rice, oil, tinned tomatoes and toiletries are easy. Fresh produce, frozen items and local foods vary much more between stores.
- What are the total costs? Add delivery fees, service fees and any minimum order. A low item price can disappear once fees are added.
- How can you pay? Many shoppers prefer mobile money or cash on delivery. Confirm what the store accepts before you commit.
- What happens if something is wrong? Look for a clear returns or complaints page and keep your order confirmation.
Tips for cheap groceries in Ghana online
People search for cheap groceries Ghana wide, but the lowest sticker price is not always the best deal. A few habits help.
- Compare unit prices. Check the price per kilogram or per litre, not just the pack price.
- Buy staples in bulk. Larger bags of rice, sugar or cooking oil usually cost less per unit, if you have storage and will use them before they expire.
- Batch your orders. One larger weekly order often costs less in fees than several small ones.
- Watch expiry dates. Photograph the label on arrival and report problems the same day.
- Compare two apps. Because Bolt Food lists several chains, you can sometimes see the same shop on more than one platform. Compare the final total.
Prices in cedis move with the exchange rate and supplier costs, so we have not quoted any here. Check live listings.
Food shopping Ghana online: staying safe
Food shopping Ghana online is mostly smooth, but fake pages and social media sellers do exist. Use apps from the official app store, avoid paying into personal accounts for a shop you cannot verify, and be careful with deals that look too good. Our scam alert page explains common warning signs. If you also shop for children, our guide to affordable baby diapers in Ghana covers where baby essentials are sold, and our list of the best online shopping sites in Nigeria may help if you buy across borders.
Where Comilmart fits
